Long exposure star trails at Haslingden Halo panopticon in East Lancashire

About Me…

Hi, I’m Katie,  I’m an award winning photographer based in North West England.  My specialism is long exposure photography. This is any photography involving a long shutter speed from around ½ second to several minutes and includes astrophotography, light trails, coastal and seaside piers.

I was obsessed with space as a child, but my interest in space waned as an adult. Visiting Greenwich in 2018, I stumbled across the Astronomy Photographer of the Year Exhibition.  I was particularly taken by the featured star  trails and Milky Way images. The inclusion of data regarding the camera, lens and setting each photographer had used to capture their images, made me realise astrophotography wasn’t just the preserve of professional astronomers in observatories, but was possible with modest equipment. I took my first astro image just before the first lockdown in 2020, and from then on was hooked.

I’m honoured that my image “Close Encounters of the Haslingden Kind” was Highly Commended prize winner in the People and Space category in the Astronomy Photographer of The Year award for 2023.  This has opened the door to other opportunities, including participating in an astrophotography podcast, writing an article on photo processing for BBC Sky at Night Magazine and having my photo on the band Civil Service’s album cover.

If you would like to purchase any prints or canvasses of any images featured on this site or on my social media, please drop me an email or message me on Instagram.
